William Gordon Brewster was born in Dublin on 26 September 1889, the son of William Theodore Brewster, general manager of the Irish Independent, and his wife Susan Mary. He was educated at Dublin Metropolitan School of Art, and joined the Irish Independent as a staff artist in 1906. He drew cartoons mainly on money matters for the daily paper, and had a regular cartoon called "This, That and the Other" for the Sunday Independent. He also contributed illustrations to Our Boys in the 1910s-30s. He died in Sutton, County Dublin, on 16 June 1946.
