Pat, probably created by John Fergus O'Hea in the magazine of the same name, the male personification of the Irish people, appearing in Irish political cartoons of the late 19th century by various artists in various publications, often alongside Erin, the female personification of Ireland. He is usually dressed as a tenant farmer, his face handsome and good-natured with distinctive small, bushy sideburns, but he often also bears the threat of force in the form a shillelagh.
