Ulster cliches get the chop[]
THE editor of a new Belfast-based comic book has declared war on cliches and stereotypes when it comes to telling the story of Northern Ireland.
Gary McKeever, who promised that Small Axe will provide a platform for local comic strip artists and writers, said: "Our intention is to give a much-needed boost to those writers and artists interested in working in the comic book medium who want to get their work published.
"It is also our desire to reflect the changing community we live in. Small Axe has a very distinct Belfast voice without any of the usual cliches so often associated with life here." Small Axe's wide-ranging themes are explored through a visual narrative style which proved popular with readers of a pilot edition published last year.
Small Axe will be officially launched this Friday in McCracken's, Belfast. Doors open at 9pm, and admission is free.
